Mayors Collaborate on Economic Growth Initiatives Through Saluda Grade Trail While Spartanburg County Sees New Business Expansion

A Trio of Mayors Join Forces for Economic Development via the Saluda Grade Trail

In a groundbreaking move, the Mayors of three municipalities in Spartanburg County layout a collaborative path to foster economic growth for their communities. The mayors of Campobello, Landrum, and Inman met around a table for the first time, discussing prospective plans and highlighting the potential of the upcoming Saluda Grade Trail project.

Campobello Mayor Jason Shamis, Landrum Mayor Bob Briggs, and Inman Mayor Cornelius Huff emphasized on the importance of unified efforts to fully utilize the growth opportunities presented by the trail. Part of the Palmetto Trail Conservancy, the trail project, once completed, will certainly bring a hiking boom to the ‘trail towns’, stimulating growth in Northwestern Spartanburg County.

Trail Towns: A Collaborative Economic Success in Making

The unique initiative, advocated by PAL (Play, Advocate, Live Well), promotes togetherness among communities. Laura Ringo, PAL’s Executive Director, expressed the need for continued community input for finalizing trail plans. A year has been earmarked to conduct due diligence and raise funds needed for purchasing the historic Saluda Grade rail corridor, under the supervision of the Palmetto Trail Conservancy.

Spartanburg County Welcomes New Businesses and Job Opportunities

On another note, positive commercial developments are taking shape in Spartanburg County. This brand-spanking new facility at Moore will start churning out their signature sweet tea and lemonade from early November.

Hiring has started and is expected to progress in the coming months, promising new job opportunities to the local population. Those interested can look forward to work in a state-of-the-art production facility.

Oshkosh Defense Ramps up Vehicle Production

Oshkosh Defense’s $155 million production facility in Flatwood Industrial Park, too, brings some great news. The company, as part of the U.S. Postal Service’s Next Generation Delivery Vehicle program, is now into full swing production of zero-emission battery electric vehicles and fuel-efficient, internal combustion engine vehicles. The facility has already delivered a number of training vehicles to the Postal Service and has regular vehicles scheduled for active mail delivery.

Continuing on their growth pattern, they are looking for more hands on their deck; the open positions range from salaried to production jobs.

Champion Foods Expanding Their Workforce

Champion Foods, a renowned name in food production based in Michigan, looks to expand its workforce as it continues to flourish its production operations at its Gaffney facility. They’re known for their delicious pizzas and breadsticks, coming from store and private-label brands.

The company has opened up positions for all shifts, offering ample opportunities for job seekers in the area. So, whether you are an early bird or a night owl, you have a shot at joining the Champion Foods team.
