Power Outage Hits Spartanburg County

Power Outage Hits Spartanburg County

Spartanburg County, SC – A power outage is currently impacting a significant portion of Spartanburg County, affecting approximately 859 customers in the Reidville area. Duke Energy, the county’s electricity provider, has publicly confirmed the outage on its live tracking map.

Causes of the Outage

Initial information from Duke Energy indicates that the interruption in service was caused by fallen trees or tree limbs that damaged power lines. The areas most impacted are those surrounding the Reidville area. Duke Energy representatives advise residents to remain patient as they strive to restore power as swiftly and safely as possible.

Restoration Estimate

Duke Energy employees have been on the ground since the outage occurred and are currently working to address the situation. As of 1 p.m. today, the company projected that electrical power would be fully restored by approximately 4:15 p.m.

Services affected

While power outages can cause minor inconveniences in daily activities, they can significantly disrupt critical services such as water supply, communication, traffic signals, and emergency services. The Spartanburg County Public Works Department has assured residents that all emergency and essential services remain operational, using backup power supplies where necessary.

Local businesses, especially grocery stores and food service establishments, are urged to follow their established food safety plans during power outages. Health department officials recommend that residents check their individual food supplies for spoilage once power is restored.

Next steps

Even as they work to restore power, Duke Energy is also urging residents to prepare for the possibility of future outages. “We continue to work to get everyone back online, but we also want to remind our residents about the importance of being prepared,” a company spokesperson said. “Everyone should keep a basic emergency supply kit on hand.”

Recommended items for such a kit include flashlights, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, spare batteries, a cell phone charger, food and water for at least three days, a first aid kit, and copies of personal documents such as insurance policies or identification.

Residents are urged to report any power outages as well as any remaining downed power lines to Duke Energy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining safety and avoiding the lines.

For more detailed information on— and updates about— the power outage, Spartanburg County residents are invited to visit the outage map available on Duke Energy’s official website.
