Exciting News in Spartanburg: Power Up Spartanburg Launches Access to Space Program!

Hey Spartanburg! Big things are happening in your community! Just this past February 2025, Power Up Spartanburg rolled out a fantastic initiative, the Access to Space program, all aimed at helping local small businesses thrive and flourish.

Transforming Downtown Spartanburg

The goal is to invigorate downtown areas by developing 12 prime locations throughout Spartanburg County. The focus is very clear: encourage businesses to set up shop right in the heart of the city. It’s a great chance for entrepreneurs to not only establish a presence but also breathe life into the local economy!

Rent Relief for Small Businesses

One of the standout features of this program is the incredible rental assistance being offered. Eligible businesses can snag up to 12 months of rent relief! Here’s how it works: for the first six months, the program covers an amazing 100% of rent. After that, assistance gradually decreases by 10% each month for the next six months. What a fantastic way to help newcomers find their feet without the heavy burden of high rent costs!

Of course, like anything else, there are certain specific eligibility requirements businesses must meet to qualify for this awesome opportunity. For those interested in more details, the full scoop is available online at powerupspartanburg.com/space.

Funding for Growth

But that’s not all! Power Up Spartanburg also offers the Access to Capital program, which provides two financing options for small businesses ready to take the next step. Entrepreneurs can apply for loans of up to $50,000 through the Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union at a super friendly interest rate of only 3.99%. And if that wasn’t enough, they also offer lines of credit up to $50,000 for 12 months at the current prime interest rate. What a fantastic boost for those looking to grow their ideas! Learn more about these financing options at powerupspartanburg.com/loans.

Success Stories from Power Up Spartanburg

The impact of Power Up Spartanburg has been tremendous! With over 2,078 intake forms submitted and remarkable business outcomes in job creation and contracts, it’s clear this program is making waves in the community. So far, the initiative has helped create 180 jobs and has supported local entrepreneurs in securing a whopping $8.9 million in business contracts, including an impressive deal with an NFL franchise!

New Ventures Galore

Why not start off with a sweet success story? Meet PuddN’, a new dessert bar that has just opened in downtown Duncan. This delightful establishment is the very first business to benefit from the Access to Space program. With this fresh addition, it’s clear there is a sweet wave of entrepreneurial spirit hitting Spartanburg!

Mentorship Matters

And let’s not forget about the mentoring program within Power Up Spartanburg, which is doing wonders for small business owners eager to learn and grow. As of May, there have been 66 mentors and 27 mentees fostering relationships through shared knowledge and support. The curriculum is focused on financial operations, paving a way for success.

Looking Ahead

Meanwhile, a significant transition is on the horizon in the aviation world as Dave Edwards, the President and CEO of the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District, has announced his retirement effective January 9, 2026, after a long-standing service in the aviation industry. With 38 years of experience, his departure marks the end of an era.

Additionally, the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce has recently revealed its 2025 board of directors, showcasing a diverse group of leaders from various sectors, promising exciting developments for the community ahead.

So there you have it, Spartanburg! Big things are happening in your community, encouraging growth and success for local businesses. Whether it’s helpful programs, exciting new ventures, or supportive networks, there’s never been a better time to be part of this vibrant community!
