The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced a temporary closure of a portion on S.C. 917 for a major construction project. The road closure, which begins on July 8, 2024, is to facilitate the construction of a culvert over the Long Branch Swamp.
The road closure will affect the part of S.C. 917. As a result of the closure, traffic will be redirected onto Highway 19 and S.C. 410, also known as Green Sea Road. The SCDOT shared this information in a press release on Monday. Although the said part of the highway will be closed, it will still remain accessible to local traffic throughout the construction duration. Motorists are advised to remain cautious while traversing the vicinity of the project, as there may be changes in traffic patterns or delays.
According to the SCDOT, this temporary road closure is anticipated to continue until August 30, 2024. The wait may seem long to regular users of the route, but the construction is a necessary step toward improving the road infrastructure in the area. The agency is taking necessary precautions to ensure the work is completed as quickly and safely as possible while minimizing disruption.
The construction of a culvert over the Long Branch Swamp is key to maintaining an efficient drainage system.
Culverts allow water to flow under a road and are essential elements for preventing flooding and road damage. By undertaking this construction project, the SCDOT is taking a proactive measure to enhance road safety and improve transportation facilities in Horry County.
The temporary road closure may bring some inconvenience to the local community and commuters who are used to traversing this route daily. SCDOT is advised to remain engaged with local communities and provide regular updates about the project’s progress, road closures, and detours. This way, residents can better plan their journeys while the construction work is ongoing.
By coordinating these essential upgrades, SCDOT is helping to ensure the long-term safety and efficiency of state roads. They ask for the public’s understanding and patience throughout the construction phase, with the assurance that the eventual result will be a safer and more efficient road system for all road users.
