SCDOT Announces Temporary Closure for I-85 Widening Project in Spartanburg County

SCDOT to Temporarily Shut Down Part of Spartanburg County Road for I-85 Widening Project

Spartanburg, South Carolina – In a decision designed to expedite the I-85 widening project, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced its intention to temporarily close a portion of Battleground Road in Spartanburg County. This development will commence from the 8th of May, activities are expected to continue for a period of 60 days.

Rerouting Measures In Place

According to SCDOT’s notification, traffic during the closure will be rerouted using a comprehensive detour plan. The alternate route will make use of Phillips Drive, Mt. Olive Road, and Swofford Drive. While this closure might cause some inconvenience, the department ensures that all necessary measures have been taken to facilitate smooth traffic flow on the alternative paths.

I-85 Widening Project

This road closure is a critical component of the I-85 widening project. The project is part of a broader initiative to enhance transportation facilities and services in the area. The expansion of I-85 is expected to significantly improve traffic movement, reduce congestion, and provide a safer and more efficient transportation corridor for both local and interstate traffic. The project also promises positive impacts on the economic development of the region by providing better access and transportation infrastructure.

Disruption for Public Good

While the closure of Battleground Road is planned to last for 60 days, the SCDOT has clarified that the duration might be subject to change depending on different factors, such as weather conditions and the progress of construction. Although this closure may present momentary inconvenience to residents and daily commuters, the final result will be a widened I-85, a more efficient roadway system, and improved local and regional connectivity.

The SCDOT has expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation during this period and has asked all road users to adhere strictly to the detours and directions provided to ensure safety. The department has also reiterated its commitment to complete the project as swiftly and efficiently as possible to minimize disruption to the public.
