The United Way of Greenville Schools Tools event is one such community affair. On Saturday, July 27, the event will take place at Carolina High School, offering participants a new backpack filled with grade-appropriate supplies and free food. In addition, Verizon Wireless retail locations in Greenville will be giving away hundreds of free backpacks on Sunday, July 28, as a part of Round Room’s 12th Annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway” event.
Local Ministries
Families facing financial hardship can also avail of gently used children’s clothing and shoes from various local ministries and resource centers such as Southernside Community Center, Berea First Baptist Church Reaching Center, Triune Mercy Center, and Woodside Baptist Church.
Free Haircuts
Free haircuts will also be available to students at some events, such as the back-to-school event hosted by Central in partnership with Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church on July 20.
Events in Spartanburg County
In Spartanburg County, the United Way of Piedmont hosts the annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign, asking businesses and individuals to donate school supplies to students in need across the community. P.S, I Love You Ministries will also be collecting back-to-school supplies in partnership with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Anderson residents are afforded numerous back-to-school supply events as well, offering families the opportunity to pick up a variety of essential items for the new school year. The Anderson County Office of the Coroner, Anderson Oconee Behavioral Health, and Anderson Area Crime Stoppers will host a free school supply giveaway at Anderson Mall on July 25.
