Helping Women Reintegrate into Society Through Community Support in Spartanburg

Helping Women Find Their Way After Incarceration in Spartanburg

In the bustling city of Spartanburg, South Carolina, a local non-profit is making waves with their effective program for reintegrating women into society following incarceration, and they’re inviting the community to celebrate with them. Angel’s Charge Ministry has offered assistance to local women for a decade now, and this year, they’re holding their 2nd annual Second Chance Supper at Fretwell.

The evening will be filled with heart-warming live music, the tantalizing aroma of dinner cooked by Pig on Fire, and Fretwell’s selection of beer and wine to accompany the meal. Can the night get any better?

Spartanburg’s Incarceration Woes

It’s no secret that South Carolina, and particularly Spartanburg County, faces challenges when it comes to incarceration. In fact, Spartanburg County has the dubious distinction of ranking second in the state for the number of incarcerated females. This is where the invaluable work of Angel’s Charge Ministry comes into play.

Angel’s Charge Ministry: A Decade of Changing Lives

Established by Pastor Nannie Jefferies in 2014, Angel’s Charge Ministry has since been a beacon of hope for many local women. The organization has made it its mission to provide the necessary tools for a successful reentry into society after incarceration.

Through its transitional housing program, women are given a safe place to live for 12-18 months while they work on rebuilding their lives. These women are more than just numbers. According to Angel’s Charge Ministry:

  • 77% of them have children
  • 58% struggle with a mental illness
  • 49% struggle with an addiction
  • 42% are without a G.E.D.

All of these highlight just how critical the services offered by Angel’s Charge Ministry are. The women look to change their life patterns, and the organization plays a pivotal role in setting them up for success.

Second Chance Supper: An Invitation to Celebrate and Support

Coming up on Tuesday, October 1, the Second Chance Supper offers a beautiful opportunity for the community to rally behind these women, and the incredible work being done by Angel’s Charge Ministry. Each ticket to this heartwarming event goes for $50, with all proceeds supporting the ongoing work of the ministry.

If you’re around and would like to learn more about the transformative work done by Angel’s Charge Ministry, be sure to stop by this event and show your support. It offers a great chance to mingle with locals, enjoy some outstanding food, and contribute to a worthy cause.
