Upcoming Repairs to Bridges in South Carolina: Residents Encouraged to Share Feedback

Upcoming Repair on South Carolina Bridges: A Call for Public Feedback

Hello folks! If you’ve been traveling lately around Spartanburg County, you must have noticed the signboards cautioning drivers about the closure of Fairforest Road. A portion of a bridge over Interstate 26 was removed after it was hit by a tractor-trailer a few months back. It’s now set for some much-needed mending. And that’s not all. Soon, five more bridges across the beautiful state of South Carolina are being geared up for repair.

The List of Repairs and Public Participation

This flurry of reconstruction comes as part of a larger commitment to road safety. The state transportation officials have announced plans to fix five bridges that currently have weight restrictions due to their waning condition. However, they need your valuable feedback. As participating citizens, let’s improve our surrounding infrastructure together!

The repair work is speculated to start sometime early in 2025, although no concrete dates have been released. And keep in mind, these projects are over and above the 109 projects that the S.C. Department of Transportation has already listed in the region.

Bridge Repair Locations

  • In Anderson County, the S.C. Highway 413 bridge over Jordan Creek is in line for repair, with work expected to be wrapped up within 39 days. Thankfully, no bridge closure is expected; only a few temporary lane closures.
  • Laurens County’s turn will see Langston Road bridge over Tylerville Creek getting a touch-up. This one might take a bit longer, about 105 days, but again, don’t fret. The bridge will not be closed.
  • Moving to McCormick County, S.C. Highway 823 Bridge over Lott Creek is set to be repaired. Expected time of completion? 110 days. However, there will be a slight inconvenience for five days during which the bridge will be closed. But hey, there’s a detour via Calhoun Mill Road and S.C. Highway 81.
  • The Winding Creek Road bridge over Fifteen Mile Creek in Pickens County is next in line, with a projected completion time of 57 days. This one too will have a five-day bridge closure, during which drivers can take the Pine Thicket Road, Garvin Road, Chastain Road, and Piney Trail routes.
  • And lastly, Spartanburg County’s Bryant Road bridge over a branch of Lawsons Fork Creek will be repaired. The work is expected to stretch over about 95 days, with no anticipated bridge closure.

Public input is very much invited and appreciated. To share your thoughts about any of these projects, you can call, email, or even write a letter. There are two web portals too through which you can drop your comments. Just make sure you do it before October 9!

Additional Public Meetings

Apart from these projects, there are two more upcoming informational meetings about proposed changes to U.S. Highway 178 and repairs to the load-restricted bridge along S.C. 146 over the Enoree River. So, mark your calendars and make your voices heard!

It’s a great opportunity for all of us to contribute to our community’s safety and comfort. Let’s put our heads together and make South Carolina roads better, one bridge at a time!
