Hey there folks! A major change seems to be paving its way onto the vehicle manufacturing field of South Carolina. The automobile giant, BMW and advanced technological firm AESC have joined hands to create a momentous wave of transformation. This partnership is set to redefine the electric vehicle industry in our very town!

The BMW & AESC Partnership

Robert Engelhorn, the top honcho of BMW Group, has openly discussed the company’s plans to manufacture six different models of electric vehicles. These will be engineered in their Spartanburg facility, with the help of our locally produced AESC battery cells. An interesting fact to mention here is that AESC will be crafting round battery cells which would be dispatched to BMW’s Plant Woodruff for assembly, so you can expect that ‘homegrown’ vibe in your future EV.

Electric Vehicle Battery Production

This plan was brought to light during the annual membership meeting held at the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce on September 24. Given that BMW currently builds three electric vehicles in Spartanburg, this is indeed a leap forward. Engelhorn has projected that by 2030, the Spartanburg Plant would host the production of six electric vehicle models.

Local Jobs and the Economy

The assembly plants and manufacturing facility will not only enhance electric vehicle production but will also fuel the local economy. Offering approximately 2,800 jobs in our community, AESC is set to invest a whopping $3.12 billion in Florence. Moreover, in Engelhorn’s words, “For every 10 jobs created at the plant, another 25 are created elsewhere in South Carolina“. Now, that’s something to look forward to, isn’t it?

A New Era of Auto Manufacturing

Could you believe it folks, our very own town playing an essential role in shaping the future of electric vehicles in the entire country? The BMW plant in Woodruff is set to create a staggering 700 jobs, Robert Engelhorn stated. Plus, the batteries produced at AESC Florence will be fundamental for BMW’s plan to create six different models of EV’s at the Spartanburg plant.

Plant Spartanburg: A Pivotal Change

The batteries produced here in Florence are specifically designed for the sixth generation of the BMW E-drive technology.” Engelhorn added. He further mentioned that in just two years from today, these battery cells would be on route to Plant Woodruff for transforming into high-voltage assemblies. You heard it right, these powerful assemblies would be going directly to the electric vehicles produced at Plant Spartanburg.

What the Future Holds?

With the construction of the battery assembly plant in Woodruff, BMW’s partnership with AESC, the job creation, and the heavy investment, this entire venture whispers an exciting future of South Carolina’s automobile manufacturing — a future where our community contributes significantly to the electric vehicle revolution of the country. And as citizens, we are ecstatic to witness this transformation taking place right before our eyes!

Anything for Story
