Columbia, South Carolina is gearing up for a thrilling showdown as the South Carolina High School League state championships approach, featuring five elite matchups. These games will determine the champions in various classifications, with three teams aiming to defend their titles. Notably, one of the contenders is vying for their third consecutive championship. This year introduces a new structure, as Class AAAAA has been subdivided into two divisions, leading to a total of six state champions crowned.
Class AAAAA Division 1
The first matchup in Class AAAAA Division 1 will see Dutch Fork (12-0) take on Summerville (13-0). Dutch Fork, under the guidance of seasoned coach Tom Knotts, is in pursuit of its third straight state title and its eighth championship in nine years. The Silver Foxes showcased their defensive prowess with a convincing 24-0 victory over Spartanburg last week, marking their sixth shutout of the season. Key players include linebacker Josh Smith, quarterback Ethan Offing, and running back Maurice Anderson.
On the other side, Summerville has proven to be a formidable opponent, displaying their strength in a recent 35-6 victory over Sumter. The Yellow Jackets are led by Virginia Tech commit A.J. Brand, who scored all four touchdowns in that game. The Rams boast an impressive lineup featuring quarterback Cutter Woods and running back Sharode Richardson. South Florence, the 2022 state champion, showcased their resilience last week, coming back from a 20-0 deficit to beat North Augusta 27-20. Class AAA
Belton-Honea Path (13-1) will take on Oceanside Collegiate Academy (10-3) in Class AAA. Oceanside, fresh off a Class AA state championship win, is led by rising star freshman quarterback Aiden Manavian. The Landsharks have moved up to Class AAA but continue to perform strongly under coach David Moore. Belton-Honea Path, featuring star running back Marquise Henderson, recently achieved an impressive 30-22 victory over No. 1 seed Mountain View Prep, making them a solid contender.

In Class AA, Clinton (11-2) squares off against Barnwell (13-1). Clinton built momentum from a 32-21 win against Fairfield Central. Tushawan Richardsonโs passing game and a decisive fumble return touchdown by Austin Boyd were highlights. Barnwell is also coming in strong after defeating Manning 37-14, led by quarterback Cameron Austinโs outstanding performance. Finally, the Class A showdown features Abbeville (12-1) against Cross (12-2). A historic program, Abbeville is chasing its 13th championship under coach Jamie Nickles.
