Spartanburg Community Unites to Overcome Hurricane Helene’s Disruption with Acts of Kindness and Resilience

Community Resilience Celebration

Feel-Good Story Emerges from Spartanburg Post-Storm Chaos

No storm can dampen the spirit of togetherness. That’s what the community in Spartanburg learned recently when Hurricane Helene decided to disrupt the annual Fall Festival at St. James United Methodist Church. But instead of brooding over their plans, the community rallied around its church and transformed adversity into a story of resilience.

When Helene Plans Something Else

With the wind blowing and the power out, the members of St. James United Methodist Church, led by Pastor Andrew Wolfe, decided if they couldn’t have their festival, they would use the time to serve their community in a different way. These kind-hearted Samaritans served BBQ plate meals, feeding more than 300 of their neighbors. But their service didn’t stop there.

Pastor Wolfe rolled up his sleeves and took his chainsaw to clear up the storm damage. He inspired other community members to do the same, transforming the debris-ridden town into a cleaner and safer place within the span of a day.

Converting Crisis into an Opportunity

After their tireless cleanup efforts for the day, the community members then headed to the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen. Despite the lack of power, their energy was in no short supply. They went about serving food and aiding the less fortunate in the soup kitchen, proving that Helene’s plans could only strengthen their resolve.

Mark Your Calendars For the Rescheduled Festival

If you missed out on the impromptu barbeque, don’t fret. The St. James United Methodist Church has rescheduled its annual Fall Festival. It will now take place this coming Saturday, October 5th, bright and early, starting at 7am. Everybody is welcome to join in the festivities at 213 North Lanford Road, Spartanburg.
