Good news for drivers in Spartanburg County, South Carolina! The trusty old Fairforest Road bridge over Interstate 26 is back in business. After taking a serious hit from a piece of construction equipment back at the start of July, it’s finally reopened after being closed for months.
On a routine day in early July, a hefty track loader being transported by a tractor trailer inadvertently struck the bridge. According to local firefighters, the culprits were the loader’s bucket, set way too high for the journey. This unsuspecting accident caused quite a bit of damage leading to the closure and repair of an extensive section of the notable bridge.
The repair process was no simple feat. It required a good deal of thorough planning, hard work, and careful coordination. Throughout the summer, multiple closures of the westbound Interstate 26 lanes took place as crews took on the daunting task of demolishing sections of the ailing bridge. Fast forward to late July, they began the process of reinforcement by placing new, sturdy girders, finally wrapping up the essential repairs in September.
Prior to the re-opening, The South Carolina Department of Transportation issued a notice. The notice kindly suggested that drivers brace themselves for occasional lane closures in the coming weeks. One might ask, “but why more closures, wasn’t the bridge already fixed?” Well, yes but necessary final touches including installation of new guardrail systems need to be in place to ensure the safety of all motorists.
So, while the good old bridge is up and running again, do be prepared for a few more minor disruptions before everything’s back to normal. Just think of it as the finishing touches to a major makeover.
In other lighter news, have you realized that Halloween is just around the corner? It’s merely a week away! If you typically put off your costume shopping until the last minute, you might want to rethink your strategy this year and place your order today. Remember, the early bird gets the best costume!
Speaking of early birds, if you’re already planning your Thanksgiving feast, you may want to consider the multi-functional Instant Pot. These miraculous appliances can pressure cook, air fry, dehydrate, saute, bake, and slow cook a variety of dishes. From those favorite family sides and appetizers to a full-on Thanksgiving meal, it’s definitely a game-changer in the kitchen scene.
All this talk of Thanksgiving meals and the holidays has me on a tangent. Let’s swing back to the original conversation. As members of the Spartanburg County community, let’s all be patient with the ongoing minor work on our revived Fairforest Road bridge. It’s just the final steps to ensure we all have a safe and smooth ride and we’re glad to see it standing tall once more!
