In Spartanburg, South Carolina, after several months of technical difficulties, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office announced that the public now has access to view mugshots online. It was noted that the website provider and IT team members diligently worked to reformat public access for booking photos.
“We understand how many of our citizens have been concerned about the site being down over the past year,” officials commented. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this process.”
It was also revealed that the booking photos were successfully uploaded and available on April 26, however, within less than an hour, they went back down. Officials speculate that this was a consequence of too many people trying to access the site in such a short time.
Now, mugshots can be accessed on the front page of the Sheriff’s Office’s website. The officials emphasized while the agency provides booking photos as a service to the community, it’s not a requirement under the Freedom of Information Act.
“We understand how many of our citizens have been concerned about the site being down over the past year,” officials mentioned. They went on to appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding throughout the duration, which was undeniably required to rectify this technical glitch.
Capturing and publishing mugshots is done as a service to the community and not because it is mandated by the Freedom of Information Act, the authorities went on to explain. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is confident that the rebooted system will work smoothly, admitting that a sudden surge in traffic on its debut might have overwhelmed the system temporarily.
With the reestablished access to online mugshots, the Sheriff’s Office expects to continue its services as planned and aims to maintain transparency in the community. They are hopeful of the reformatting efforts by the IT team and provider and are ready to take necessary action if another shutdown scenario surfaces.
Post the rectification of the glitch, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is resuming its usual operation of providing accessible booking photos online. The brief inconvenience experienced by the citizens is now resolved and officials are hopeful that such a technical snag will not be repeated in the future.
