Hey folks, sit tight, we have a recent update from Spartanburg, South Carolina that you might want to hear. Avery Dean Hand, a former deputy from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, has just faced the music. He’s cooling his heels in the Spartanburg County Detention Center after being charged with misconduct in office and disclosure of confidential information by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Hand, who is 29 years of age, got his marching orders from the sheriff’s office on May 23, 2023, after a stint starting from April 12, 2021. As the story unfolds, it seems he was quite busy during his time in the force, and not just with regular cop stuff.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Hand allegedly overstepped his boundaries by accessing and sharing sensitive information related to an ongoing homicide investigation conducted by another agency. Now, it’s not really part of his job description, is it?
Our sources reveal that he didn’t just stop at sneaking into a secure law enforcement records database and peeping into classified information. The guy allegedly met up with an individual in a hotel while on duty and read out parts of the reports aloud. Can you believe that?
The investigators have dished out that the person who listened to these tidbits from Hand didn’t keep it to themselves. Oh no, they passed it on to a third party. As of now, there’s no word on whether that information was used maliciously.
Once the sheriff’s office got wind of this alleged misconduct, they didn’t mess around—they immediately referred the case to state investigators. “This agency made the referral to SLED once the Spartanburg Police Department made us aware of the issue,” stated SCSO Lt. Kevin Bobo. He further explained that because of the accusations and charges Hand currently faces, no additional comments will be coming from the sheriff’s office.
Okay friends, a bit of a shift in gear but let’s chat about what’s up in the sports world. It’s Week 15 of the NFL schedule. Which teams do you think are the top dogs?
Or maybe you’re more into ice hockey? Then get pumped because Andrei Svechnikov and Jack Roslovic will be hitting the ice when their Carolina Hurricanes team up against the San Jose Sharks. Awesome, right?
