Tragedy Strikes Spartanburg: Three Dorman High School Students Lose Their Lives in Devastating Crash

Spartanburg, South Carolina, was rocked by an unimaginable tragedy on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 22, when a horrific three-vehicle collision claimed the lives of three young students from Dorman High School. The accident took place around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Fairforest Clevedale Road and Old Blackstock Road, shaking the very foundations of the local community.

The Collision

During the fateful afternoon, a Dodge pickup truck and a Chevrolet coupe were both traveling west on Old Blackstock Road. Suddenly, the Dodge pickup collided with a tractor-trailer that was making a left turn from Fairforest Clevedale Road onto Old Blackstock Road. In a matter of moments, this deadly crash unfolded, leading to the tragic loss of life.

Remembering the Young Victims

The victims from the Dodge pickup truck have been identified as Daniel Diaz, just 15 years old; Aben Sisk, who was 16; and Itzel Garcia-Trejo, aged 17. Sadly, Daniel and Aben died at the scene of the accident, while Itzel was rushed to Spartanburg Medical Center. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, she later succumbed to her injuries.

A Community in Mourning

All three young lives lost were students at Dorman High School, and the weight of this tragedy is being felt deeply within their school community. Following the incident, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger confirmed the identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding their deaths, adding to the sense of sorrow that has enveloped the area.

Support for Those Affected

In light of this heartbreaking event, the Spartanburg District Six School Board released a statement expressing profound sadness regarding the loss of these promising young individuals. The overwhelming grief experienced by the students’ families and the greater community underscores the importance of coming together during such times of loss. In response, counselors and support teams have been made available at Dorman High School to assist students, faculty, and staff as they navigate their emotions in the wake of this tragedy. It’s vital now more than ever for the community to lean on each other for support.

Investigation Underway

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic incident. Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet coupe, who was also involved in the collision, sustained injuries and has been taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment. Thankfully, the driver’s injuries are non-life-threatening, but this incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly life can change.
