Tragedy Strikes Spartanburg: Three Dorman High Students Killed in Devastating Crash

Spartanburg, South Carolina, was rocked by a heart-wrenching event on April 22, 2025, when a multi-vehicle collision claimed the lives of three beloved students from Dorman High School. The accident occurred around 4 p.m. at the busy intersection of Fairforest Clevedale Road and Old Blackstock Road, leaving the community in mourning.

The victims have been identified as Daniel Diaz, 15; Aben Sisk, 16; and Itzel Garcia-Trejo, 17, all of whom lived in Spartanburg. This shocking tragedy is a deep loss not just for their families but also for their friends and fellow students at Dorman High School. Both Diaz and Sisk were pronounced dead at the scene, while Garcia-Trejo was rushed to Spartanburg Medical Center, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

The crash also involved a 2004 Dodge pickup truck, which the three teens were traveling in, and a large tractor-trailer. The truck was attempting to make a left turn onto Old Blackstock Road when the pickup struck the trailer portion of the 18-wheeler. As if the scene couldn’t get any more tragic, a third vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet coupe, was also caught up in the collision. The driver of that car was injured but has not yet been named and was taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment.

A Community in Mourning

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation into this devastating accident, gathering all the facts to present a clearer picture of what happened. Meanwhile, the Spartanburg County Coroner, Rusty Clevenger, described this loss as incredibly significant for the area. He encouraged the entire community to keep the affected families in their thoughts and prayers.

This incident has hit particularly hard for the Spartanburg County School District Six, where officials expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of three young lives, each filled with promise and potential. The school district is aware of the emotional impact this tragedy has had on its student body and has mobilized counselors and support teams to provide much-needed assistance during this incredibly painful time.

Recent Losses and the Call for Healing

This tragic accident follows closely on the heels of another heartbreaking situation within the school district, which saw another student’s untimely death just less than two weeks prior. As Dorman High School community tries to process these back-to-back losses, school officials are emphasizing the urgent need for support and healing. They are extending their resources to anyone affected, ensuring that no one has to grieve alone.

The collision has opened a dialogue in the community about road safety and the responsibilities of drivers on busy intersections. Many people have taken to social media to express their shock and sorrow over the deaths of these teens. Friends have shared memories and tributes, highlighting not only their individual personalities but also what they brought to their school’s culture.

The road ahead will be challenging for the Dorman High community, filled with questions, sorrow, and the search for healing. As they come together to support one another and celebrate the lives of Daniel, Aben, and Itzel, they will forever carry a weight that reminds them of the fragility of life. In times like these, there is a call for unity and compassion, urging everyone to prioritize safety and awareness on the roads we all share.
