ArtsUpstate Shines Spotlight on Spartanburg Events

Spartanburg, a vibrant town set in the Upstate South Carolina, boasts an energetic art scene that will now, more than ever, come alive through a collection of diverse events for the local community, visitors and art enthusiasts. artsUpstate is looking forward to bringing to light various events spanning different aspects of art and culture encapsulated in the summer months of 2024.

Upcoming May Events

The month of May kicks off with the Flashback Fridays, an evening event celebrating local music running every Friday between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. at Morgan Square. Photography aficionados shouldn’t miss The Imperial Eye: Picturesque Photography and Printed Media in the British Empire at Wofford College that explores aesthetics and influences till May 18.

Theater and Music

Entertainment is set to reach a peak in May with The 48 Hour Film Project – South Carolina taking center stage. Theater lovers can indulge in the exciting performance of “School of Rock: The Musical” brought to life by the Spartanburg Little Theatre while book enthusiasts would be charmed by the live spectacle of “Book of Mormon” at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.

Arts Exhibitions Galore

A myriad of art exhibitions are set to enthrall the audience. From “Progressions: The Evolution of Style and Subject in Work of Julia Elizabeth Tolbert” to “Artists Collecting Artists”, there is something to attract everyone. The curation continues with the display of “Colors by Pat Cato” and “Spring into Summer” by Patrick DeCrane and Gale Roberts, that are set to be unveiled on May 7 through June 1 at the Artists Collective.

June Highlights

Kicking off the month of June is the much-awaited “Eye of the Beholder” by Dan Hazard and the captivating works of an artist known as Divinity, titled “Daydreamin'”, both running from June 4 to June 29 at the Artists Collective. The much-anticipated BMW Charity Pro-Am Concert welcoming Phillip Phillips is also slated for June 6.

Art Enthusiasm Continues Through July

July promises an art-filled ambiance with exhibitions featuring works by Joe Hiltabidel, Addam Duncan and Glenda Guion running throughout the month. Furthermore, the Spartanburg Little Theatre is due to produce the hit musical, Kinky Boots from July 12 to 21.

Into August and September

As summer winds down, the artistic fervor does not. The spotlight in August falls on comedian Brian Regan, set to deliver a night of laughter on August 24 at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. September will host a diverse range of exhibitions at Artists Collective including “Falling Hard” by Gale Roberts and Patrick DeCrane.

The entire line-up of events and exhibitions narrates the story of the beauty and diversity of the Spartanburg art scene. From theatre performances to art exhibitions, and musical nights to photography displays, the colorful tapestry of Spartanburg’s artistic culture is set to unfurl for all to appreciate.
