In a thrilling announcement for film enthusiasts of Spartanburg, independent filmmaker Edgar Bravo’s latest venture ‘Little Box of Hope’ will have a free screening at the Spartanburg County Headquarters Library on August 1, 2024, at 6:30 pm. Following the exclusive screening, Bravo himself will be present for a Q&A session, making it an engaging event for locals.

About the film

‘Little Box of Hope’ is a supernatural thriller that revolves around a businessman who discovers a mysterious box. The box holds the power to transfer him into the mind of a killer, leading to a gripping struggle between two consciousnesses in a single body. The film was premiered on July 20 at Wofford College, with each ticket priced at $100.

Meet Edgar Bravo

Bravo, a seasoned filmmaker with his roots in Los Angeles, has spent significant time in creating production in Spartanburg. His work spans multiple genres and has been distributed in over 70 countries, with his films available on streaming services like Tubi. Now settling in Hub City, Bravo aims to develop a pipeline of local talent and help them to work on multiple projects in the arena of independent filmmaking.

“We want to give back to the community,” Bravo conveyed his thoughts behind hosting a free screening for ‘Little Box of Hope’. He also expressed keen interest in connecting with local writers and creatives in Spartanburg, aiming to work on future projects with them.

Making waves in the local scene

Bravo’s presence in Spartanburg has created a ripple effect in the local film culture. His attempts to give a platform to upcoming filmmakers in Spartanburg have been well received by the community. Jess Herzog, the Director of Adult Services at the library system, referred to the unique opportunity presented by Bravo’s free screening and Q&A session as a “really big deal”.

Despite Spartanburg not being traditionally recognized as a hub for filmmaking, Herzog acknowledged the importance of making people aware about the rich film heritage of the town. “To be able to make that connection with someone who actually works in film is an incredible opportunity,” Herzog added.

Boosting the local film scenario

Katherine O’Neill, the Chief Economic Development Officer with OneSpartanburg, agreed on the potential benefits of Bravo’s presence in Spartanburg. Commenting on attracting filmmakers to the area, she stated, “There’s a real opportunity for South Carolina, and Spartanburg County especially, to be that mid-market solution for independent and small-studio filmmakers.”

Future projects lined up

Bravo has already announced his next film project, ‘Huck’s Defeat’, focusing on the titular battle during the Revolutionary War. Bravo assured his commitment to creating quality independent films in Spartanburg by stating, “Anybody who’s into history, they know that one, because if that battle hadn’t been won, we would be having British currency right now.”
