Spartanburg’s Young Football Prodigy shares Unusual Pregame Ritual with NFL Legend

In the heart of South Carolina, Spartanburg’s sophomore running back Trenton Lynch is making a name for himself on the football field. Incredibly, he shares a surprising connection with retired NFL star and Super Bowl Champion, Marshawn Lynch. Apart from their shared agility, speed and their head-turning last name, the pair also share a pregame ritual that’s as sweet as it is unusual.

A Sweet Pregame Ritual

Before setting foot on the field, both Lynchs munch on some Skittles. Yes, you read that right. Skittles! This quirky ritual certainly seems to work in their favor. After Trenton’s electrifying performance in Spartanburg’s recent victory over Byrnes, it’s quite clear that he should stick to his colorful pre-snacking tradition.

“I have a pregame ritual that I do before every game. I always eat some Skittles,” Trenton confessed, curiously pointing out “LYNCH” emblazoned across the back of his jersey. This amusing habit soon became a talking point after Lynch galloped his way to 186 yards on 14 carries, averaging an impressive 13.3 yards per carry.

An Unforgettable Display

In the 58-14 rout of Region 2-AAAAA rival Byrnes, Trenton Lynch put on a show. His spectacular running game, replete with two touchdowns, including a remarkable 53-yard sprint, was a sight to behold. Off the field, his celebration is equally upbeat. Sporting a broad grin, he’d skip towards the sideline, soaking up cheers from teammates and supporters alike.

When asked about how he feels crossing the goal line, Lynch admitted with a laugh, “Scoring a touchdown… just makes me feel like I’m on top of the world.”

Team Effort for the Victory

Spartanburg’s squad (6-1, 4-0 Region 2-AAAAA) showcased their dominance from the very begining. Along with an incredible offensive outing from Lynch, Vikings quarterback Trey Burke echoed his brilliance in the passing game with 79 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the team’s kicker, Will Love, had an outstanding day, managing to break the school record for longest field goal, drilling a 54-yarder.

Expressing his pride, Spartanburg’s coach Mark Hodge celebrated the team’s unity, stating, “We’re starting to play together better and communicate better… our effort has been great, and we can make up for some of our mistakes with effort.”

Keeping Composure in High-Stakes Moments

Following the dominant victory, Coach Hodge stayed grounded, advising his players, “Nothing stupid.” He reminded them about the importance of maintaining control over emotions, especially during these high-stakes games. He insisted his players keep their heads cool and remember to stay present at every moment, to ensure their emotions don’t get the better of them.

Setting High Standards

With Lynch and his teammates consistently elevating their game, Spartanburg’s football future looks bright. And who knows, maybe more players will adopt the pregame Skittles routine. After all, it seems to be working wonders for young Lynch!
