A man from Spartanburg County lost his life over the weekend when sheriff’s deputies opened fire on him after he tried to escape following a car crash on Interstate 85. The man, identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Daniel Austin Papala, reportedly crashed his car at 2:52 a.m. Sunday on the northbound lane of the interstate.
