In line with the ever-growing trend of dog-friendly spaces, the Spartanburg Marriott, located at 299 N. Church St., is taking its pet-friendly services to the next level. One of its in-house restaurants, The Terrace, now offers an exclusive pet-friendly dining menu further enhancing its outdoor seating, fire pits, and relaxing evening atmosphere.
The pet-friendly menu includes a variety of options like cooked salmon, hamburger patties, boiled sweet potatoes, and peas. Even dessert is covered, with offerings of peanut butter puree and seasonal fruits, designed to be completely safe for dogs. This unique introduction aims at providing pets with a nutritious and delicious meal while effectively reducing kitchen waste. “It minimizes kitchen waste, too. When we’re cutting our salmon fillets, we cut off the tailpiece and can utilize that for the dogs”, shared Trang Pitts, executive chef at Spartanburg Marriott.
Many restaurants in downtown Spartanburg, such as Burgär, Monsoon Noodle House, Mezcal Taberna Mexican, Cribb’s Kitchen, Delaney’s Irish Pub, Fr8Yard, and Ciclops Brewery all offer outdoor seating that welcomes canines. Fr8yard, located at 125 E. Main St., goes a step further by hosting special events for dogs and their owners on the first and third Wednesday of each month during the spring season. Proceeds from these ‘Yappy Hours’ go towards benefiting the Spartanburg Humane Society.
Barkery Bistro, with locations in Anderson and Greenville, extends the luxe experience to four-legged visitors with its range of homemade treats and therapeutic relaxation opportunities. The establishment, serving the Upstate for past 15 years, is considered more than a regular pet store.
Another venue, the Unleashed Dog Bar located at 69 Rocky Slope Road, Greenville, provides a common ground for both humans and their furry friends to unwind. The venue hosts weekly trivia, dog pool days, Pride “Pawties”, bingo and more, offering a space for dog owners to get together and socialize.
In Downtown Anderson, spaces like Growler Haus and Raines on Main extend pet-friendly hospitality. Growler Haus, 313 N. Main St., in Anderson, is known to offer various beer options for humans and treats for pups while still accommodating them with a leash. Raines on Main, on 312 S. Main St., in Anderson is a family-friendly restaurant bar that provides outdoor seating for pets and their owners, offering safe food choices for dogs like hamburger patties and chicken.
The Mary Black Rail Trail offers a pleasant four-mile walk in the sunshine with dog stations dotting the path to make the experience memorable for your pet. Fretwell, an outdoor venue at 101 Fretwell St. in Spartanburg, is a great place to enjoy live music, food trucks, and a fun atmosphere afterward. Venues like these, once few and far between, are becoming more common, giving people more opportunities to share their love for the outdoors with their pets.
