Spartanburg Gears Up for Meet & Greet With County Candidates
Put on your best smile, Spartanburg! Something’s brewing in our lovely city that’s bound to create a stir. Voters will soon have a chance to rub elbows with candidates running for offices that impact our county. Yes, you heard that right—a wholesome meet-and-greet is on its way.
An Evening to Make Informed Choices
This gathering is all set to happen on Oct. 10, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at 220 East Kennedy St. Not just that, a forum involving two high-stake candidates debating for S.C. Senate District 11 is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the neighbouring auditorium. Grab your jackets because the weather forecast shows a pleasant high near 75F gradually dipping to a cool low of 52F by the evening. Make sure to park your umbrellas at home, though, because it’s going to be a clear day with some passing clouds.
The one-of-a-kind event organized by the League of Women Voters of Spartanburg County and the Upstate Action Alliance aims to foster better civic engagement. In fact, Becky Slayton, president of the League, is quite thrilled to provide this platform for voters to make wise choices. She mentioned how crucial it is for voters to hear and see the candidates in their own words, which aids in deciding who they want in their desired office.
Debate Highlights
The forum will be conducted in a lively debate format, where candidates will respond to questions fielded by an assistant professor of Anthropology from the renowned Wofford College. Candidates will have the opportunity to reply to one another and express their stand on various issues, making for a civil and engaging debate.
And if you’re wondering, it’s the eminent Republican Sen. Josh Kimbrell and the formidable Democratic challenger, Angela Geter who’ll be crossing swords for S.C. Senate District 11, one of the county’s most competitive state legislative races. So, get ready for an electrifying evening, folks!
Worry not if you’re yet to register as a voter. You can still do so till Oct. 14, all thanks to the deadline extension made after Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in the state.
A Mixed Bag of Candidates
The event promises to be an interesting mix with both experienced and budding candidates. We have our incumbent senator who switched the district red, the former Christian radio host, the commendable veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force, and the dynamic accounting consulting firm owner-operator.
