Spartanburg, renowned for its vibrant cycling community, is all set to host the beginning of its annual mountain bike rides competition this May 20, courtesy of the Freewheelers Cycling Association of Spartanburg. More than 500 cycling enthusiasts will convene at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium at dawn at 6:30 a.m. for the highly-anticipated Assault on Mt. Mitchell and Assault on Marion bike rides.
Both rides will share a common route, with the Assault on Marion wrapping up at Tom Johnston Campground in Marion, North Carolina after an exhilarating 74.2 miles. In contrast, the Assault on Mt. Mitchell riders will have to brave a further rugged 102.7 miles, culminating their race at the lofty summit of Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina.
To ensure the safety of the participants, some road sections around the downtown area of Spartanburg will be shut from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. The thoroughfares will reopen as the cyclists advance along the route. The entire event is intended to end at 5 p.m. in North Carolina.
The annual bike ride has developed into a much-anticipated event for the city and the cycling community, bringing together both amateur and professional cyclists, fans, and fitness enthusiasts.
