In a progressive educational move, Spartanburg community leaders have announced an initiative to create 400 paid, work-based learning opportunities for local high school students. The initiative, spearheaded by OneSpartanburg Inc., seeks to provide students with relevant work experience by partnering with leading employers in the area.
Local businesses, governmental entities, and nonprofits, including Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, the Spartanburg Academic Movement, and Spartanburg County school districts, have committed to creating these internship positions. This program addresses the growing need for skilled talent among county employers.
According to Taylor Dement, OneSpartanburg’s director of talent solutions, “internships and the experience they provide are among the leading considerations employers look at in hiring”. The internships serve to not only provide company-specific work experience, but also act as an indicator for increased commitment and longevity in a job role.
OneSpartanburg’s chief talent officer, Ron Garner has extended a call to all businesses in Spartanburg to participate in the initiative, thus bolstering the talent pool in the county. Through such collaborative efforts, he hopes to make Spartanburg a more attractive hub for talented individuals.
In another noteworthy development in Spartanburg, the Hub City Spartanburgers baseball team, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers, has announced a partnership with Fox Sports Spartanburg. A majority of the Spartanburgers’ 132 regular-season and postseason games will be broadcast live on Fox Sports, promising a riveting radio entertainment experience for the community. Fans will also be able to catch live shows from Fifth Third Park throughout the year.
Spartanburg’s industrial scene has also seen some exciting developments. Real estate firm, CH Realty Partners LLC, announced it has secured a $50 million loan to refinance its 150,000-square-foot industrial facility in Union. This building houses MycoWorks, a pioneer in mycelium technology for sustainable manufacturing. The company utilizes cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced robotics to automate a significant portion of its production process.
Austria-based global automotive supplier, Benteler Automotive Corp, has also announced plans to invest $47.9 million in its Spartanburg County operations. The investment includes building improvements and updated machinery, fixtures, and furnishings at its plant in Duncan.
In these exciting developments, we see a community growing stronger, more vibrant, and more prosperous. The collaborative spirit in Spartanburg is driving its progression, creating more opportunities for its residents. Whether it’s in providing real-world work experience to high school students, enhancing sports entertainment, or in fostering industrial growth, this county is truly on a trajectory to renewed success.
