The city is gearing up for an impressive redevelopment project that is sure to bring a fresh vibe and new opportunities to the downtown area. In collaboration with local leaders, a monumental initiative has been set in motion, titled Project Core, and it promises to completely transform the landscape of downtown Spartanburg.
At the center of this redevelopment is the former Herald-Journal site on West Main Street, which will soon be bustling with excitement as new structures come to life. The plan includes the construction of a stunning six-story hotel featuring a grand total of 152 rooms, a delightful ground-floor restaurant, a rooftop bar with magnificent views, and plenty of meeting space for gatherings big and small. But that’s not all! Residents can also look forward to the addition of 180 brand-new apartments to the area, welcoming around 300 new residents to the heart of the city.

As part of the redevelopment, there will be an inviting public plaza and green space located adjacent to the newly constructed Minor League Baseball stadium, which is currently taking shape. Construction is set to kick off in 2025 following the approval of plans by the Spartanburg’s Design Review Board on January 7, 2025.
