There was a bitter pill to swallow for a crowd of early risers in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, this Tuesday morning. They discovered, to their disappointment, that the county’s relief distribution point had run out of food the day before. For those who didn’t get the news in time – no food for you just yet.
So, what was the deal? The county had previously announced that bottled water and meals-ready-to-eat (MREs) would be distributed at two Spartanburg Community College locations. The first was the Tyger River Campus, and the other was along Highway 11 in Campobello. The plan was to have these distribution points running every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with no closing date in sight. Quite a neat plan, it seems.
Here comes the twist, though. Some locals who decided to beat the rush and get to the Highway 11 location very early said they queued up for hours before the opening time. However, they were greeted with disappointing news once they got there – the post had run out of supplies the day before! That’s right, folks – no breakfast on Tuesday.
According to Scottie Kay Blackwell, a communications hauler for the county, the turnout for the supplies was quite high, forcing them to close the Highway 11 distribution point on Monday. Indeed, owing to the high demand, they practically ran out.
But don’t lose hope just yet, Spartanburg denizens – great news is on the way. The county management reassures that more supplies are en route, with several tractor trailers carrying the much-needed aid. “We have at least a few tractor trailers on the way to replenish the supplies,” Blackwell conveyed via email.
Although we don’t have the timings for when these rigs will roll into town, it’s comforting to know more food and bottled water are on the way. Better yet? The county is pondering opening up a third distribution site. So, here’s to getting more help to as many people as possible.
In the meantime, as residents wait for more aid to arrive, word has it that there are still some supplies at the Tyger River Campus’ distribution point. This location is situated at 1875 E Main Street, Duncan, for any interested parties.
So, that’s the scoop from Spartanburg County, South Carolina. If you’re in need and you’re in the neighborhood, head over to the SCC Tyger River Campus for some immediate supplies. And keep your eyes and ears open for those tractor trailers rolling in with more. Let’s weather this together, folks.
Oh, and on an unrelated note, Halloween is peeking around the corner. If you’re into the spirit, a bunch of floating candles à la “Harry Potter” won’t hurt.
Also, kindly remember to keep up with your vitamin D intake – it’s crucial to staying healthy, especially as the colder months are approaching. If you need a boost, there are several supplements available to help you maintain your health goals. So, while you’re waiting for those food supplies to arrive, don’t forget to take care of yourself in small but significant ways, too.
