Good people of Spartanburg, South Carolina, don’t be too hasty to ignore those calls from unfamiliar numbers! Turns out, that call might just be the helping hand from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) you’ve been waiting for. They’re reaching out to those who applied for aid, and it could be about scheduling an inspection of your damaged house, or just getting more information to process your application.
According to officials, “A FEMA inspection may be required to determine whether a home is safe and livable.” So, if an inspection isn’t scheduled, it’s possible it could hold up the review of your application – a delay no one wants.
Oh, and if you started an application but didn’t finish it, expect a call from them too. They’re not leaving anyone out!
If you’re a homeowner or renter in certain South Carolina counties, you qualify to apply for federal assistance. Now if you’re not sure how you can apply — no worries. There are few different routes available to make it easier on you.
First off, you can apply directly online. Easy, quick, and can be done at any time. But if you’re more comfortable talking personally with a representative, no problem at all! You can meet with FEMA representatives at your nearest Disaster Recovery Center (DRC), no appointment necessary. Not sure where the closest DRC is located? Just text “DRC” and your zip code to ‘43362’, and you’ll find out pretty fast.
If you prefer to complete the application on your mobile phone, that’s also an option. You can also apply by dialing ‘(800) 621-3362’. They’ve made sure there’s a way for everyone to apply!
Now that’s what we call reaching out!
