Authorities are suspecting a Gaffney man, recently detained during an alleged burglary, may be connected to a series of robberies that occurred in Spartanburg in July.
The Spartanburg Police Department responded to a call in the early hours of Monday, Aug. 12, relating to a reported breaking and entering in progress at the Shop & Buy Food Mart on John B. White Sr. Boulevard in Spartanburg. Officers successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as a resident of Gaffney, in the act of the burglary.
On further investigation, police have started to believe that the suspect, now in custody, may be involved in a string of similar incidents that plagued Spartanburg in July. The Spartanburg Police Department is in the process of reviewing evidence from the previous burglaries and comparing it to the recent case.
Authorities have yet to officially connect the suspect to the Spartanburg robberies but given the similarities in the modus operandi and the geographical vicinity of the crimes, officers perceive a potential link.
The series of burglaries have incited fear and unease among the residents of Spartanburg over the past month. The quick response by the Spartanburg Police Department in apprehending the suspect involved in the recent burglary has however brought some relief to the local citizens. Yet, residents are hoping for a swift resolution to this crime spree that ensures their safety and security.
As for now, the investigation continues with the suspect in custody. The Spartanburg Police Department has assured the local community that they are doing everything in their power to solve the cases and bring the culprit(s) to justice. The department is purportedly working around the clock to collect, analyze, and compare evidence to connect any unsolved robbery cases to the suspect.
The scenario remains fluid with authorities continuing their investigation into the numerous burglary incidents. The residents of Gaffney and Spartanburg are hopeful that this arrest may conclude the string of recent burglaries and bring back a sense of security to the community.
