Early this Monday morning, folks in Spartanburg, South Carolina, woke up to some disturbing news. According to local officials, there was a shootout right beside a popular local Spinx store, located on John B White Sr Boulevard. The incident escalated from a verbal barrage caught on store surveillance to a full-fledged shooting spree just outside the convenient store, leaving bystanders in shock. Even in the late-night blur, one man was found sleeping in his car next to the chaotic scene.
The store’s clerk recounted how the event happened at around 1:10 a.m., when one man, following an argument with another group of men who entered the store, pulled out a firearm, igniting fear in the hearts of those present. The argument didn’t end in the store – it spilled outside. Astonishingly, the man began shooting near the end of an adjacent car wash, and another man, dressed in a black jacket and grey shorts, shot back.
The rapid fire exchange resulted in bullet shells hitting a nearby white Hyundai, where, unbeknownst to the combatants, a man was sleeping. In a twist of fate, the sleeping man escaped the terrifying encounter unharmed, while his car bore the brunt of the damage. Post-shots, one of men involved in the gruesome episode sped away from the scene in, what the police reported as, an unidentified blue Ford.
Four men were reportedly involved in this unsettling incident that has left the Spartanburg community on edge. Apart from the man in the black jacket with grey shorts, there was a man seen wearing a red hoodie with black jeans, another in a black jacket with grey pants, and the fourth was dressed entirely in black.
The crime scene wasn’t just left with devastation, but also some potential evidence. Investigators recovered two suspicious book bags from the scene, one containing 25.6 grams of a green leafy substance — which some might believe to be marijuana — along with a scale, hinting at possible drug dealing. The second bag held an Apple Air Pod and a Calisto drink bottle and was found curiously lodged under the ram-shacked Hyundai.
This unfortunate incident is a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers that can occur in our communities. As the details continue to unfold, the quaint town of Spartanburg is left grappling with the shocking incident that transpired on one of their familiar store-fronts, a place where community members frequently stop by for their everyday needs. The Spartanburg Police Department continues their investigation into this incident, actively seeking clues that would lead to the arrest of those involved.
