Spartanburg Says Goodbye to a Beloved Icon, Nancy Moore Davis

In Spartanburg, South Carolina, a light has dimmed. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and pillar, Nancy Moore Davis, has passed away. She softly exited this life on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 82 years, just nicely settled into what we all hope are the sweetest years of our lives.

Nancy was a local girl, born on October 8, 1942, to Clarence and Nell Murphy Moore. This sweet southern town, Spartanburg, was her playground, her home, and her heart, and it reciprocated her love in kind, offering up plentiful friendships and memories throughout her life.

Remembering Nancy’s Achievements

She was a proud graduate of the local Cowpens High School, and never one to sit back and twiddle her thumbs, she carved out her professional life alongside her dear late husband, Robert Wilson Davis. Together they made an impressive team for over two decades, ruling the roost at their construction business, DR Construction Inc. No task was too big or too small for Nancy – she was the administrative queen, playing an integral part in the success of their venture.

Nancy may have retired from DR Construction Inc., but she wasn’t done serving her community. She spent over ten wonderful years as a teacher’s aide with Spartanburg School District 3. With her nurturing spirit, she did not just assist the teachers, but touched the lives of countless children. It’s safe to say a part of Nancy’s love still lives in the halls of the District 3 schools. Additionally, she was an active and cherished member at Cannons Campground United Methodist Church.

When it came to pursuing happiness, Nancy had the recipe down pat. She loved the tranquil beauty of water, whether it was from her lake house porch or on a relaxing beach trip. Her thirst for knowledge was quenched with avid reading, her love for home surfaced through her cooking, and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy.

Nancy’s Legacy

Nancy leaves behind a legacy and a large loving clan. She survived by three children; son Bryan Davis (& his wife Tammy), and daughters Robin Davis (and partner Ashley) and Claudia Lynn Keller (and husband Keith Sparks). Her love lives on in her eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her sister, Ann Alexander, and her companion Ed Medford, too, mourn the loss of the wonderful Nancy.

The community will gather to honor this wonderful woman at Cannons Campground United Methodist Church on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM. This celebration of life is a testament to her enduring love and the unforgettable imprint she left on the Spartanburg community.

In lieu of flowers, any memorials can be directed in Nancy Davis’s honor to Spartanburg Meals on Wheels or The Shriners Hospital for Children.

Spartanburg has lost more than just a resident; it has lost a mother figure, a friend, and a guiding spirit. But, as we remember her, we smile, and the town feels a little brighter for having known her. Nancy Moore Davis, your spirit will forever be a part of this town.
