Spartanburg Co. Students Honor Victims of Recent Car Crash

In a heartfelt display of unity and compassion, students across Spartanburg County School District Six have taken collective action to honor the memory of three fellow students tragically lost in a recent car crash. The victims named by the county coroner were 14-year-old freshman Ashton Olley, 11-year-old Jaicurious Gist, and 8-year-old Jalecia Gist. The three children were among five people who lost their lives in a crash along I-26 on February 24th.

All three students had strong ties to the county’s school district. Olley was studying at Dorman High School, while Jaicurious Gist was attending Fairforest Middle School. Jalecia Gist, the youngest of the victims, was a former student of the district.

Students Rally to Provide Comfort and Support

In these difficult times, students across the district have found ways to show their support and affection for the victims’ families. Fair Forest Middle School had a ‘Hat Day’ while Dorman High School’s Freshmen Campus sold forty dozen doughnuts to raise funds for the families. Additionally, in a poignant tribute to their classmates, students wore specific colors associated with each of the victims.”

A Community Unites in Grief

In line with the community-led initiatives, family members have expressed their profound sorrow in public forums. Yet, they also acknowledged the sweeping sadness that has touched the entire community. The unified actions by the students have gone a long way in offering some small measure of solace and comfort for the grieving families.

The district will remain committed to providing assistance to those impacted by the tragedy, offering grief counselling and resources to both students and staff. The community’s response to this tragic incident demonstrated unity, resilience and compassion, reflecting the values of the wider Spartanburg County.

The circumstances of the tragic accident are still under investigation. Further details on the unfortunate incident and subsequent initiatives taken by the district and local community will be made available in the coming days.
