In an ambitious forward-thinking move, Spartanburg County plans to create 400 paid, work-based learning opportunities for local high school students. The initiative, aiming to empower young people with real-world work experience, kicked off on October 30 with leading employers from the community signing an internship pledge. Organizations include the county’s own health care system, school districts, and non-profit bodies.
Taylor Dement, the director of talent solutions for OneSpartanburg Inc., reveals that internships prove valuable not only for prospective employees but also for employers. According to national surveys, internships rank among the top considerations for employers during the recruitment process.
The initiative is expected to incite interest among other businesses to create similar learning opportunities within their organizations. “Together we can strengthen Spartanburg’s talent ecosystem and continue to better attract and retain talented individuals to our community,” OneSpartanburg’s chief talent officer, Ron Garner adds.
