Steve Martin and Martin Short are bringing their live show, “The Dukes of Funnytown!” to the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium on Sept. 21. This performance presents a fantastic chance for residents of the Spartanburg area to see “a wild and crazy guy” touring with the talent behind the characters of Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick.
Martin and Short have collaborated numerous times across stage, TV, and the big screen, entertaining audiences with their comedy prowess. They currently star together in the popular Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building” alongside pop-star Selena Gomez. Martin’s career spans many heartwarming movies such as 1979’s “The Jerk,” 1987’s “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” and 1991’s “Father of the Bride”. Short, on the other hand, is recognized for his memorable character work on TV as well as on the big screen in “Father of the Bride” movies and 1986’s “The Three Amigos.”
The comedy pair has a history with the auditorium based in Upstate, having previously performed their live comedy tour, “An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life,” which was recorded at the Peace Center in Greenville and subsequently released on Netflix in 2018.
The live show will feature special guests, Jeff Babko and The Steep Canyon Rangers. Jeff Babko, a renowned musical arranger and composer who features in the house band for “Jimmy Kimmel Live” has accompanied Short as musical director since 2002. Additionally, the Grammy-nominated North Carolina-based group, The Steep Canyon Rangers, who have released multiple albums with Martin, are set to perform.
