Severe Storms Leave Thousands Powerless and Damaged a Home in The Upstate

Upstate, S.C. was hit by a line of severe storms on Saturday night, leaving thousands without power and causing significant damage to homes in the region. More than 2,000 Duke Energy customers from Spartanburg County, and over 3,000 homes in Anderson County, reported to be powerless around 6:30 p.m. Restoration efforts and damage assessments are currently in progress, says the company.

Home Damaged By a Tree Fall, Resident Escapes Unhurt

In North Cleveland Park Drive of Spartanburg, a massive tree was downed by the storms, causing substantial damage to a local residence. Firefighters and emergency crews arrived promptly on the scene. Despite the extent of the damage caused, neighbors reported the homeowner safe, with no injuries.

The inclement weather caused numerous trees and power lines to collapse across the Upstate, keeping fire departments of the region engaged. Authorities reported a tree blocking Arnold Branch Road near the intersection of Fountain Inn Road in Spartanburg County. Officers are urging the public to avoid these areas until they are fully cleared and considered safe.

Significant Disruptions Caused by the Severe Weather

The Hilltop Fire Department is attending to a broken power pole on North Church Street, resulting in temporary closure of a portion of the street from Whitney Road to North Pine Street. Other closures include West Wood Street and Houston Street in Spartanburg, both affected by downed power lines and fallen trees.

In Greenville County, troopers reported a tree obstructing the intersection of Lee Vaughn Road and Roy Thomason Road. Anderson County, on the other hand, reported several trees down in the southern part of the county heading east into Honea Path. Authorities are urging residents to submit photos or videos of any storm damage to assess the severity of the situation accurately and provide the most efficient help possible.
