Spartanburg County residents, commuters and visitors, buckle up and prepare for a temporary change in your driving routine. Starting on Thursday, there will be a temporary traffic shift. If you’re a regular user of I-85 North at Exit 57, you may need to adjust your route. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced that traffic at the aforementioned exit will be maintained but redirected away from the ongoing work zone.
The changes in traffic pattern stem from the urgent need to repair damages at exit 57 that occurred during the unfortunate event of Hurricane Helene. The SCDOT has seen it fit to shift traffic away from the zone to effect the necessary repairs appropriately. If you regularly access the airport from SC 14 North, you should anticipate a detour. Your drive will now take you to the next exit, routing you south to the SC 14 exit.
The proposed traffic shift and detour plan will commence on Thursday, Oct. 17. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the reset to the regular traffic route should take place by Friday, Nov. 8. This gives a rough estimate of about three weeks for the traffic alterations. However, as we all know, some things might extend beyond the expected date.
One major concern for drivers during such an undertaking is navigation. Well, you’ll be pleased to know that detour signs will be placed in strategic locations along the detour route. These signs will guide drivers, ensuring they stay on the correct path during this temporary shift.
The SCDOT has made an appeal to all drivers who will be passing through the affected zones. They urge drivers to slow down when driving through the work zone. Drivers are also asked to pay attention to signs and crews for a seamless transition. The agency’s appeal is simple: slow down, stay vigilant, and keep everyone’s safety in mind.
Blue Ridge Parkway has begun issuing citations following an increase in visitors who ignore park closures. It is of utmost importance, as park-goers, to respect boundary lines and park regulations. The disregard for closures not only affects the conservation efforts but also potentially puts violators in harm’s way. So remember, the next time you visit – respect the rules for the safety and preservation of our beloved park.
