Decked up in the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue, Upstate comes alive with the spirit of Veterans Day this November, honoring the sacrifices and courage of our nation’s brave military personnel. Various events are being staged across Anderson, Greenville, and Spartanburg, featuring everything from heart-stirring parades and rousing dedications to soul-lifting parades. Not to forget, the tantalizing deals being offered in honor of the occasion. Here’s your hot-off-the-press round-up of the festivities and discounts on offer.
The Anderson County Veterans Day Parade is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. on South McDuffie Street. Open to the public, this event pays tribute to the service of veterans in classic celebratory style. Expect horseback riding, melodious karaoke, fun games, stirring music, and delicious food.
A week later, the Universal Unity Ranch (located at 3831 Keys St., Anderson) honors veterans with an event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. Food will be available at reasonable costs of $10 for adults and $5 for children aged seven and younger.
The Town of Honea Path holds its Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 9, starting at 10 a.m. on Main Street.
From Nov. 8-10, veterans and active military personnel walk into the Children’s Museum of the Upstate free of charge! And that’s not all; four family members can join in the fun too! Just present your military ID for free access.
On Sunday, Nov. 10, Fluor Field in downtown Greenville hosts a free, family-friendly event to honor veterans. Gates open at 3 p.m. with a line-up that includes local veteran organizations, military programming, a thrilling vintage warbirds flyover, a concert, and finally, a spectacular fireworks show.
Ill and injured veterans receive special recognition at the Veterans Day Monument Dedication Ceremony hosted by DAV. This ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Veteran’s Pointe Memorial Park in Spartanburg. After the tribute, refreshments will be served to the guests.
Restaurant Deals range from free Big Gulp or coffee at 7-Eleven to free meals at Applebee’s and Chili’s. Familiar brands like Dunkin’ Donuts, Outback Steakhouse, and Starbucks offer treats like complimentary donuts and beverages. Sweet-tooth veterans will cherish the free slice of double fudge Coca-Cola cake from Cracker Barrel.
Shopping Deals aren’t far behind with Academy Sports + Outdoors offering a 10% discount on in-store or online purchases until Nov. 11. Retail giants like Amazon and Macy’s offer deals on select items while Kohl’s offers a massive 30% discount on qualifying in-store purchases for vets and their families on Nov. 11.
