After the recent battering by Storm Helene, Upstate is rolling up its sleeves to bounce back. The region is teeming with countless volunteer opportunities for those who wish to lend a hand and help their community get back on its feet.
Join the Clean-up Effort at Conestee Nature Preserve
The Conestee Nature Preserve, a treasured oasis offering 13 miles of trails surrounded by water and trees, suffered significant upheaval due to the storm. Although the park staff has already embarked on cleanup efforts, they have issued a call for additional volunteers on Friday, October 4. Anyone interested in participating can sign-up online. The cleanup operation will run from 9 a.m to 11 a.m and participants can contact the preserve for further information.
Trail Cleanup at the Cottonwood Trail
The Spartanburg Area Conservancy has taken to social media to announce their hosting of the first-of-many trail cleanup days at Cottonwood Trail on Saturday, October 5. According to their post, the event is open to all ages and does not require heavy-duty work. Participants are to meet at the Fernwood Pool from 9 a.m to noon to join in the restoration effort.
Donations to the United Way of Greenville County
The United Way of Greenville County has started accepting various types of donations that will extend through to Saturday, October 5. The donations, which range from canned goods, diapers, to hygiene products can be dropped off anytime from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.
“Fill the Penske for Greenville” Donation Drive
The City of Greenville is partnering with the United Way in a unique undertaking called the “Fill the Penske for Greenville” donation drive. The event, set for Saturday, October 5, between 8 a.m and 12 p.m., will coincide with the TD Saturday Market, thus allowing community members to give while they gather for a day of fun.
United Ministries Lends A Helping Hand
United Ministries is collecting items to assist those who have suffered loss and damage due to Storm Helene. The collection, ongoing today and Friday from 8 a.m to noon, aims to offer help in the most practical possible for those affected by the hurricane. Community members are urged to consult the list of needed items for donation guidance.
