Spartanburg all set to welcome a new Whataburger by the end of October
In some exciting news for burger enthusiasts in Spartanburg, a new Whataburger outlet is in the offing. The restaurant, which is currently under construction on E. Main Street, is planning to fling its doors wide open to customers come October 28. You can spot the eatery on the same strip as the Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Chick-fil-A, smack dab where the old Ruby Tuesdays used to be.
New job opportunities and college scholarships on offer
David Britt, a prominent councilman from Spartanburg County, enthusiastically promoted the forthcoming Whataburger outlet, highlighting the 100 plus job opportunities it is set to create. But that’s not it. The company is also looking to boost the local community by handing out scholarships.
Not missing out on an opportunity for a touch of humor, the councilman quipped, “My problem with Whataburger is they’re helping me grow,” adding that he’ll have to “slow down eating that patty melt and fries.” The excitement among locals is palpable; everyone is looking forward to skipping the drive to Boiling Springs to catch their Whataburger fix.
Whataburger’s bustle not limited to Spartanburg
Spartanburg’s new eatery is the latest in Whataburger’s foray into South Carolina. There are already outlets operating in Greenville, Anderson, and Columbia. And it appears the fast-food chain won’t be stopping at Spartanburg. Eyeing a bigger footprint in the Palmetto State, the company is aiming to set up shop in the coastal regions and is even planning to bustle North Carolina with Whataburger outlets next year.
A Spartanburg institution bids farewell
As the city chimes in to welcome Whataburger, it is also bidding goodbye to a local institution. Papa’s Breakfast Nook, which has been serving the community for 35 years on East Saint John Street, has had its last service on September 27. Owner Steve Wilson decided to call it a day and retire, putting up the building for lease.
All in all, it’s a time of changes and transitions for Spartanburg’s restaurant industry. While the changes bring certain challenges, the optimism for new opportunities and tastes is evident among residents. With university and job opportunities galore, UniCity seems all set to continue its growth journey with renewed vigor. Let’s wait and watch what’s on the menu for Spartanburg in the coming years!
