Those burger cravings Spartans have got a reason to rejoice—the city of Spartanburg has just welcomed the much-anticipated opening of its second Whataburger location. Situated near the bustling Westgate Mall, the restaurant made its grand debut on November 1 and is a testament to the love of this Texas-based brand in the region.
The Westside of Spartanburg, lovingly dubbed the Hub City, unveiled its very own Whataburger on November 4. This new fast-food haven, located at the significant intersection of W.O. Ezell Boulevard and West Blackstock Road, signifies the second in the city of Spartanburg and the third for Spartanburg County. And guess what? There’s even a fourth one in the pipeline for Duncan!
Whoever said “The early bird catches the worm” must have prophesied this event. The restaurant gifted the first two customers in line with a generous prize: a free Whataburger treat for a year! Not just that—the next 200 do-gooders went home with fresh and exciting Whataburger swag.
More than just satisfying the community’s cravings, the Whataburger near Westgate Mall is making significant waves in the local economy. There are approximately 100 local jobs generated by its operations, complete with double-drive-thru lanes to handle the impatient traffic, as per a recent news release.
What makes Whataburger a crowd-pleaser, you ask? Well, its around-the-clock operating hours, fresh-made burgers with a distinctive Texas flavor, spicy ketchup, and unique menu items like the patty melt and honey butter chicken biscuit all work together to keep its fans coming back for more. Since 2019, the chain has been on a rapid expansion spree across the Southeast, including South Carolina and possibly even North Carolina soon enough.
The opening of the Boiling Springs Whataburger in July marked the brand’s entrance into the state. Now, it has also spread its roots to Greenville, Anderson, and the Midlands. The chain strategically plans to further extend its brand presence into all the state’s population centers, with an estimated pace of about 10 new stores a year.
As promising as it is, the opening of the second Whataburger location in Spartanburg city offers more than just quick bites. It signals growth in the community—of jobs, of business, and of course, some Texas-sized taste! So, next time you’re around Westgate Mall, make sure to stop over for a much-deserved burger treat.
