Former Wofford College student files suit for sexual battery

Former Wofford College student files suit for sexual battery

Spartanburg, SC – April 30, 2024

A former Wofford College student, Catherine Rand, has filed a counterclaim against a student who she says sexually assaulted her, after he accused her of fabricating a rape accusation. The case involves Graham Boswell, who was initially charged with sexual assault after an encounter with Rand in February 2022. However, the charges were later dropped due to insufficient evidence.

In response to a lawsuit filed by Boswell against Wofford College, Rand, and the officer who arrested him, Rand denied the allegations and instead accused Boswell of sexual battery. She stated that she was unable to give consent due to being heavily intoxicated during the encounter.

Rand’s Account of the Incident:

Rand narrated that on the night of the incident, she had consumed large amounts of alcohol at two different parties on campus. She mentioned drinking vodka, White Claw, and even taking a Delta 8 gummy. After feeling dizzy and light-headed, she found herself waking up naked in Boswell’s bed with him on top of her.

She explained that when she tried to move, Boswell allegedly told her that she had enjoyed the encounter and asked her to engage in further sexual acts, which she refused. Rand later noticed blood and cleaned herself in the bathroom, discovering that Boswell also had blood on him. The encounter ended with both leaving the apartment separately.

The Fallout:

Following the incident, Boswell denied any wrongdoing and accused Rand of falsely accusing him of rape. Rand, on the other hand, experienced emotional distress, lost friends who did not believe her story, and even attempted suicide. She expressed concerns about the impact her case could have on other rape survivors, urging them to come forward.

As the legal battle unfolds, both parties stand firm on their claims, with Rand seeking justice for what she alleges was a traumatic experience of sexual battery.

Stay tuned for further developments on this case.
