Wyndham’s ECHO Suites bets big on Upstate growth

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts have shown their confidence in the ongoing economic growth of Upstate by launching their first ECHO Suites Extended Stay location in Spartanburg. The move reflects Wyndham’s anticipation of a construction boom nationwide, largely driven by the $1.2 trillion federal spending from the Infrastructure and Jobs Act of 2021.

The Rise of ECHO Suites

According to Geoff Ballotti, Wyndham’s President and CEO, the ECHO concept is currently the fastest growing brand for the company, with 270 new builds, representing over 33,000 rooms, in the pipeline. The choice of Spartanburg as the site of the first iteration stems from its booming economy and ongoing major development projects.

“Spartanburg was the 12th fastest growing county last year in the country,” explains Phillip Cox, co-founder of Cox Universal Group, the company that developed and owns the Spartanburg location. “Major projects like the city’s new $450 million mixed-use development centered on a new minor league baseball stadium and BMW Manufacturing’s $700 million battery assembly plant being built here are testament to the area’s economic growth prospects.”

Accommodating Growth

With a rapid influx of new residents and significant economic activities, demand for the ECHO Suites has been increasing since their opening. The suites are mainly targeted at workers involved in major projects in the area, but Cox anticipates greater demand from new residents looking for temporary residences while their permanent houses are readied.

According to Emily Crawford, Corporate Sales Manager for Sandpiper Hospitality, who manages the Spartanburg property, demand has been on the rise since the hotel opened. The property offers its guests double-queen suites, extra storage, Wi-Fi access points in every room, and the convenience of digital check-in, all highly sought after by guests planning extended stays ranging from a week to up to seven months. Their rooms also provide an efficient kitchenette and the largest refrigerator in the industry, intending to give guests a homely experience.

Growth Expectations

The Spartanburg property is one of 12 ECHO construction projects under development in the Southeast by Cox’s company. Driven by the region’s growth trends, Cox expects the bookings to surpass initial expectations. This launch signals Wyndham’s foresight for the accommodation demands likely to be spurred by the economic growth in Spartanburg and the Upstate region.

This investment by a globally recognized hospitality firm like Wyndham in the Upstate is an affirmation of the region’s economic potential. Its new ECHO Suites concept, designed to meet the needs of a changing workforce and growing population, further enhances the region’s appeal to businesses and investors.

The future of the ECHO Suites brand seems promising, given the acceleration in demand and Wyndham’s strategic planning. Their presence in the region is likely to contribute to the planned economic growth, making the Upstate the most anticipated hotspot for investors and businesses alike.
